Celebrate Reading Week

CELEBRATE READING WEEK
This week, March 3-7, is Celebrate Reading Week. Our teachers are designing activities to celebrate this time in class. P1-2 had the opportunity to listen to two authors' read-alouds. Our very own, Dr. Jo, read her new book, Kingston and the Shark. If you'd like to purchase a signed copy of her new book, make a check out to Josephine Gonsalves or bring in $25 cash to the office. Jo is donating all of her proceeds to the Launch A Star Foundation. If interested, please place your order before March 21st.

Our other author reader was Omar Bala. Omar and his son are a writer/illustrator team; Omar writes and his son Khalil illustrates. Omar read students two of his books. You can learn more about his books on his website: https://booksbybalas.com/

If you'd like to participate in Celebrate Reading Week at home here are a few ideas:
Host a family book club, create a cozy reading nook, have themed "storytelling nights," design book-inspired crafts, participate in "read-aloud" sessions where everyone takes turns reading, engage in book discussions, and even stage a mini play based on a favorite book; making sure to choose books that cater to everyone's interests and reading level.

Dr. Jo also shared a website that is used to help budding authors make their stories come to life: www.storyjumper.com.
